SUPER BOOK FEATURE DAY 4 – Black and White/Shades of Gray

So I said on Monday that The Girl Who Would Be King challenged notions of good versus evil. Well…this series took good and evil, threw it into a pot and stirred it all together to get a heaping gray masterpiece. Good and Evil? Pfft. They crushed the two and blew them into your face.

Jackie Kessler and Caitlin Kittredge co-wrote this series and gave a fresh spin on the superhero mythos. Superhero Jet and supervillain Iridium both think they’re right which makes us wonder who’s really good and who’s really bad. The book is structured between Before (5 years into the past when they both attended the academy for superheroes in training) and Present Day which gives us different versions of the girls. I really enjoyed the way they linked corporations and superheroism and the questions that it elicits: What is a superhero? What can or can’t superheroes do?

I’d go on and on about this book but I don’t want to spoil anything.

You MUST read it.
