Event Recap: Penguin’s Blogger Night

Last week, I had the privilege of being invited to Penguin Canada’s first Bloggers Night. Myself and other bloggers invaded the Penguin Canada headquarters to spend the evening with some of the Penguin Team and authors, Andrienne Kress and Morgan Rhodes.

Sitting in the conference room with pizza and cupcakes to fill our bellies, we mingled a bit before the night got started. Dana from Faze Magazine interviewed the authors with a ton of questions ranging from how they came up with the idea for their story (Adrienne was inspired by the movie Sucker Punch for her book, The Friday Society) to how they keep all of their characters/storylines in organized (Morgan is big on outlines. She knows what’ll happen in a chapter long before writing it) to the type of reader they are (Both are reluctant readers).

Then the floor was open to any blogger who wanted to ask additional questions. I asked the authors what they thought about what Peter Stothard said a few months back about “bloggers drowning out serious criticism”. Both agreed that bloggers offer alternative avenues for books to get advertised and into the hands of readers. After the Q & A ended, the bloggers got to have our books signed and also got a swag bag full of goodies as well as ARCs.

(Such a cute bag)

(Used the hair dye. Didn’t bleach though. Love!)

My favourite part was getting to talk with some of the Penguin staff. They’re hilarious individuals who share a love of books and I’m so happy to have met them in person. It was a fun evening and would love to do something like this again. 🙂
