Book News: Fox Orders Pilot of Lauren Oliver’s Delirium

delirium show announced

Yes, it’s true. Fox has ordered a pilot for Lauren Oliver’s bestselling series, Delirium. Karyn Usher is penning the script with Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope as Executive Producers.

Delirium, penned by Karyn Usher (Prison Break), is based on a bestselling trilogy about a world where love is deemed illegal and is able to be eradicated with a special procedure. But with 95 days to go until her scheduled treatment, lead character Lena Holoway does the unthinkable and falls in love. Oops. Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope join Usher as EPs.

I’m a bit cautious when it comes to any book to screen adaptations but intrigued as well. The last book in the trilogy, Requiem, comes out March 5th, 2013.

Lauren Oliver has now placed the announcement on her site.

The deal is that Fox, which initially optioned the books for film, decided that due to the complexity of all the side plots and characters, the Delirium series might be better suited for TV, as we’d have a chance to explore all of those elements. I am super psyched because that has always been my preference (for those of you that have read some of my interviews, you know that I LOVE anything that can be done while in pajamas, such as writing and watching television!)/ We’ve been assembling all the moving parts to make that happen over the past few months.

She goes on to talk about her worried fans who think the series won’t be true to the book. You can read the post in it’s entirety HERE.

  1. You have all the great book news this week! I totally missed this announcement! I think that as long as the series didn’t run too long Delirium would work much better as a TV show. There’s just so much there!
