This review may contain spoilers…proceed with caution.

Amethyst is a new character for me and I literally know nothing about her before her New 52 resurrection. Marx does a great job at writing and introduces some facts about gem world like a) there are other “minor houses” which are smaller kingdoms I take it (Citrine and Diamond thus far…) b) Diamond doesn’t seem like a fun loving house…but then again it is Diamond… c) the House of Amethyst is a big deal. Yes, it was stated they were a big deal before but the fact that there are other houses/kingdoms not in power solidifies it. It’s an okay issue that has me curious enough to want to read the next one but I’m not committed yet…

The interior art looks good and has it’s nice moments (more specifically the close ups). I didn’t like the cover at all. It feels too busy for some reason.

This comic has a back up story called Beowulf written by Tony Bedard and the art done by Jesús Saíz. I wasn’t feeling the story at all and will probably skip it when reading Amethyst.

Moderately curious of #2.

I’ve grown up with the comic book characters we all know and love but I finally got into comics with the launch of DC’s NEW 52 in 2011. These opinions are mine and mine alone…unless, you know, you agree which will then mean it’s OUR opinion but disagreeing is totally fine too.
